Performance angle and lighting

   Doing some research this fine evening, I found this video, Aerials by System of a Down. I really like the angle and lighting of the bands performance. I think this would be good to use in my video. Here is the video...


    

Pain- Shut your Mouth- Analysis

 
   Today I am going to Analyse Pain- Shut your mouth, to get ideas for my music video I am going to create. I chose this video as it is the same genre as my track, however it is more electric than other songs in the genre so I thought it would be a good one to analyse. I am going to analyse the technical aspects of the video.

Camera Movement/ Angles

   There are many different camera angles in the music video. I will split them down into narrative and performance... During the narrative there are many close ups, mid-shots, over the shoulder shots and POV shots. This is because the narrative is trying to create a short film. The movement is also from a fixed position making the narrative easier to follow, like a TV show/ film. However, during the performance parts of the video, where the band are playing in the garage, there are many close ups for the main singers face and the bands instruments. This is the star appeal, where the video is selling how good the band is not just the song. Furthermore, the camera is moving in and out of the band and moving round. This is a common convention of the genre as it creates a distorted feel to it and also sells the the band too.

Editing 

   The editing in the video is also easier to analyse if it is broken down into the 2 areas... During the narrative section of the video the cuts are cleaning and create a continuity editing scene. This is because it is trying to create an atmosphere of a TV show or short film. I addition to this, the colour is graded so it looks yellowy green. This is also a convention of the genre and I will be using this in my video. However, during the performance part of the video the editing is very different. The editing becomes gnarled and distorted creating the "rock" feel to the video. This becoming a convention to the genre and I will think about using this in my video Here is an example of the the shaky feel...





Mise-en-scene

•    Costume: during the performance the band are wearing all black. During the narrative the costume is everyday clothes. Also the Alien is wearing what looks like an astronauts suit.
• setting: house, garage (performance) and court/ tribunal room
• lighting: at night, it is low key lighting, during the narrative its quite high lighting and during the performance its very low and looks greeny yellow.

Cool Setting- Pain: Shut your Mouth

   Doing some research Today, I found a music video by Pain called Shut your Mouth. The setting of the band playing is really neat and I think looks very good. The setting is inside a small garage. I like how all the amps are there and its in a tight area. I will think about this when planning my music video.

Whilst researching today I found this cool transition that I really like in the video Chop Suey! by System of a down. I thought it would be great to log and maybe use.

The Beautiful People- Marilyn Manson- Analysis

My Track

In class today, I got to choose the track I wanted for my music video. There was 30 tracks to choose from and the track me and jacob chose is called 'Here In the Black'. The song jumped out at us. I really like the rhythm of the track and the vibe that it gave off. The first thing that came into my head when I listened to the track was a band rocking out and sort of a grungy mood and I think it would be great to do!


The genre of the song is Industrial rock mixed with electro. The song has a mixture of things including normal singing, whispers and electro bits. I'm looking forward to making a music video for this track and will make it look professional as possible. To get ideas for my video and to make it look professional over the next few weeks I will be researching into videos in my genre and looking for the conventions along with the main features in the videos.
