Filming task

This week me and Jacob went out and shoot some  practice footage for our music video. We didn't intend to used this we just wanted to get a feel for what we need to do. We took 25 seconds from our track (the chorus) and played around with some angles that we could use. We filmed at 4pmish in some woods near my house, at first we didn't want to film here but we thought it would be cool and something that I would like to do. Due to this the costume isn't what we would use and same for the location. In addition to this, we didn't actually plan any shots we just thought about angles we could use.

From this task I have learnt that the amount of planning we will have to do, how long it will take and it has also helped us get back to grips with the editing software. In addition, filming later at night to get the right darkness will be key for our filming.

Furthermore, the biggest thing I have learnt from this is, FOCUS THE CAMERA AND NOT USE THE ZOOM TO DO SO, USE THE FOCUS DIAL!!!!!

Here is the clip we filmed...

Filming Task

We have been set a task by Sir, to complete by next Tuesday, to film and edit 20 seconds of our music video. This is just a task to get us going with the video and help make a start for our final product.

Combichrist- Throat Full of Glass- Lighting and Mise-en-scene

Today I am going to look at the Lighting and Mise-en-scene used in Combichrist's "Throat Full of Glass" video.

Here is the full video...

Lighting

The lighting in the video is quite low key lighting throughout, but the peoples body's are lit up very well. For example, at the beginning of the video the lighting is very dark except over the stripper and the lead singer, they are lit up well.

Furthermore, during the part where the "deal" happens the lighting is very low, portraying the shady things that are happening. This is a convention of the genre.
Here is a picture of the lighting during this part...

However, during the Mexican Stand off at the end of the video the lighting is quite high key. This is used to allow the audience to get a full and good view of what is happening in the scene. Here is an example of the lighting.

The grey/ shady look throughout is created via editing. The colour is graded to look grey but also a filter is applied to make the shots look old and like the "film" is scratched which is a really cool affect.

Mise-en-scene

The Mise-en-scene used is very conventional in ways but not in others. For example the male costumes used are very conventional as the look dirty and grimey in plain clothes. In contrast to this, Goodwin's theory of Voyeurism towards women applies to this is video which is rare in the genre. The women are dressed provocative manor. The props used are things like alcohol and guns which is also rare in the genre but the same symbols and imagery is given off.
