Today I am going to analyse the technical aspects of Evestus- The Fall. The video is very much industrial rock as it contains a lot of rock style music but also a lot of electro style and beats, however it is more on the electronic side, like my track. This video will help me get some ideas for my music video for the narrative and performance areas as its props and settings stuck out.
Here is the music video...
Camera Angles/ Movement
The video starts with an extreme close up of the main stars face along with a small boy. This is setting the narrative, but also sells the star appeal. Furthermore, the movement is very shaky and distorted again, this is becoming a very common convention in the genre. In addition to this, there are a variety of different shots used to make the video look creepy. For example a reversed over the shoulder shot of the demon on the devils shoulder...
In addition, there is a pattern of extreme close ups on the props adding to the emphasis of the surreal in the video. Moreover, at points in the video, erratic camera movements add to the distorted feel. Also the camera puts characters in and out of focus in the video making them look psychopathic which is really cool and something i would like to use in my video.
Editing
Throughout the video there are mainly just fast cuts, however there are fades (at the start) from low key to high key lighting. Also during the video there are uses of slow motion and blurring of props/ people, which i would like to use in my video as it looks really cool. In addition to this, a pattern is created from close up to long shot which is cool. In some cases this may get samey and boring, however due to the erratic camera movement it looks really cool. What also is really good is matching the beat to the cutting. I will try and incorporate many of the techniques used into my video.
Mise-en-scene
The setting is really simple yet amazingly interesting. It is just set in an abandoned building. This is something I would like to try for my video. The costumes look great; I hope mine can be that good. They match the lyrics and visuals. The make up used is very good especially the strings in the throat and everything looks very real.
